Hi Friends!

Madison and Lane’s April wedding was so beautiful and vibrant despite the rain that moved in that morning and didn’t stop!

This was one of the sweetest couples we’ve ever worked with. They handled the rain like champs and kept the focus of the day solely on their marriage and the excitement of such a special time in their lives.

Plus they got some amazing photos with the clear umbrellas that we went out and purchased a couple of days before the wedding! We’ll take the win!

The Planning

I started working with Madison and her parents over a year prior to the wedding. They knew from the beginning that they wanted help keeping their plans organized and assistance creating the overall design plan.

Our clients wanted a classic, traditional Richmond wedding. BUT with plenty of hot pink! In keeping with this theme, they chose traditional venues with a Catholic ceremony at an iconic Richmond church, followed by a ballroom reception at The Omni.

They kept the bridal party attire classic with long, floor-length black bridesmaid dresses and black traditional tuxes for the guys. We added in pops of hot pink with the florals.

Side Note: I believe trailing ribbons on bouquets is always a good idea!

Speaking of bridal party, this one was HUGE! Usually I get a little nervous with so many people to corral on the wedding day, but this group couldn’t have been any nicer or more willing to help/take direction. Kristine had the truly tough job of trying to squeeze them all in the frame for a group photo!

The Ceremony

The wedding took place at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in downtown Richmond, right around the corner from the Capitol building. It is actually the first Catholic Church in Richmond, built in 1834! And it’s stunning! The exterior is so grand and full of character.

What a perfect backdrop for our bride’s first look photos with her dad and brothers, and a few family photos while the rain lightened up!

The ceremony was a traditional Catholic mass.

Prior to heading to the reception, the bridal party stopped at the Capitol Building for photos. These are some of my all-time favorite images!

The Reception

Madison and Lane wanted a PARTY. They wanted their guests to be well-fed but in a casual manner with heavy hors d’oeuvres food stations. It was all about the dancing for this group! Their band was phenomenal and kept the crowd going late into the night.

Because this was not a seated dinner event, we kept the table decor minimal and made sure we had plenty of candles for a soft glow around the room.

To accommodate about 300 guests, we designed two large, square-shaped bar areas on each end of the ballroom. One was the primary bar (with a secondary set up in the foyer just outside the ballroom) and the other served the various food stations.

These gorgeous towering arrangements were the centerpieces to each of the two square bar setups.

The highlight of the reception design was the enormous cake from Ukrop’s Bakery that our team designed along with the Ukrop’s staff. Our bride loved the idea of having a fairly traditional wedding cake with a tier of flowers incorporated in the cake.

This beauty weighed a TON and had to be carried in by 3 men. We were thrilled with how it turned out and just loved Madison’s reaction to it when she came into the ballroom for a sneak peek!

Wishing Madison and Lane all the best and a lifetime of happiness together! They recently welcomed a baby girl into the world and she’s perfection. They are such a great team and I am excited for everything life has in store for them!

Thank you all for following along!

Much Love,

Jamie
